Is it legal to work on a student visa in Australia?
You are unable to work until you have begun your studies in Australia. A student visa permits the visa holder and dependant partner to work up to 40 hours per fortnight while the program is in session and unlimited hours while the program is officially not in session. If the student is pursuing a master’s degree (coursework or research), the partner will have unlimited work rights.
How does an Australian academic year look like? When does the semester start?
Courses at VET institutes and universities typically begin in February or March each year when the first semester begins, while the second semester runs from June – July through November. Some educational institutions have three semesters each year. Most universities will likely have certain courses with two primary intakes, February, and July.
While studying, can students with student visas apply for another program?
Yes. Student visa holders can apply for the new program. However, the Department of Home Affairs states that in most cases, changing education providers will be prohibited if the student has not completed a minimum of six months of the primary course of study at the present educational provider for which the visa was issued.
